Son of John Nutt and Elizabeth Clifford.

Born c. 1732 or 1733.

Spouse of Jane O. Brown.

Landowner, gentleman farmer, and tavern owner of Nottingham Township (then Burlington Co., NJ). Owned property in the townships of Nottingham (modern Hamilton Square), Windsor, Bordentown, and Chesterfield.

Filed claims for damages against both the American and British forces in the Revolution, including destroyed cherry trees, 20 sheep, 12 tons of hay, a saddle and a wagon.

Funded the building of Hamilton Square Baptist Church in 1788. Built a tavern in Hamilton in 1790. He bound his successor to entertain all preachers free of charge (ie. the minister of the Baptist church would have his Sunday morning dram free).

Headstone is worn, but is given in a book from 1954 by H.A. West ("A history of Hamilton Township Mercer County, New Jersey"):
"Sacred to the memory of
William Nutt,
who departed this life May 2d, 1799, aged 66 years and 2 months.
I in pain and anguish
Sometime lived,
Resigned to death and rest;
Thro' Jesus Christ,
Our Saviour God,
To be forever blest."
