Charles Alfred Sternquist (born Carl Alfred Stjernquist) immigrated from Sweden in 1882 with his father Bengt Jansson Stjernquist, mother Erika Andersdotter and siblings Anna, Oscar, Gustav and Victor. By 1900 Charles and brothers Oscar and Gustav had relocated from Chicago, Illinois (where the rest of the family settled) to Pittsburgh where they owned and operated Stjernquist Jewelers.
