Mrs. Ruth S. (Elam) Toms, 89, of 14321 McAfee Hill Road, Cascade, MD, passed away at 1:42 A.M., Saturday, December 25, 2010 in Select Specialty Hospital, Camp Hill, PA. She was born April 29, 1921 in Spartanburg, SC.

She and her husband, the late Mr. Harry Q. Toms, Sr., were married December 24, 1941. He passed away March 2, 1989.

Mrs. Toms was a homemaker known for being a great cook. She enjoyed playing cards and Bingo and listening to Elvis gospel music. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles #1758 Ladies Auxiliary, Waynesboro.

She is survived by eleven children, Harriet DeRigo of Blue Ridge Summit, Katie Curry of Cascade, Dorothy Warrenfeltz of Gettysburg, Patricia Era of Hamburg, PA, Harry Toms, Jr. of Roanoke, VA, James Toms of Idaville, PA, Marshall Toms of Sliver City, NM, Margaret Strous of Fairfield, Sharon Toms of Cascade, Deborah Harbaugh of West Virginia and Sheila Hollingshead of Mercersburg, PA; extended family members, Vicki Shartzer of Cascade and Vance Warford of Blue Ridge Summit; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 30, 2010 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro, with the Rev. Eugene M. Cline officiating. Burial will follow in Fountaindale Union Cemetery, Liberty Township Adams, Co.
