He graduated in 1972 from Lufkin High School and attended Angelina College, where he was involved with the drama department doing lighting and sound.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He had been a member of the Now Generation of the First Baptist Church in Lufkin.

He had a number of hobbies and interests. He loved to read and spend time with his computer. He played the guitar and had been a member of several area bands. He loved to listen to all types of music. He had studied martial arts and fencing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Fenley, Jr. and Alice Fenley, his father-in-law, Bert Stewart, in November 1999.
