James Gordon Tudhope was born on August 16, 1876 in Orillia, Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada- the son of James Wallace Tudhope and Elizabeth Agnes McCollagh Tudhope. On May 1, 1899 he married Miss. Ada M. Colley at Orillia. Ada was the daughter of Alfred W. and Lucy McFarland Colley. The Tudhopes remained in Simcoe County for a short time, but later settled at Toronto, York County, Ontario, Canada. In 1906, James and Ada's only daughter, Cora F. Tudhope, was born in Toronto. The Tudhope family came to the United States on August 10, 1910, entering the country at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. At that time, James was described as being 34 years old; 5 feet 8 inches tall; with a ruddy complexion; brown hair and brown eyes. The Tudhope family came to the United States to settle in Seattle, King County, Washington- following Ada's father and step-mother, who had come to the United States several years prior to that date.

James Gordon Tudhope, passed away in Seattle, King County, Washington on September 17, 1911. His remains were buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Seattle. Sadly, his only daughter, Cora F. Tudhope would be buried in this same location just five years later.

James G. Tudhope, aged 35, who resided at Ballard Beach, died Sunday, September 17, of tuberculosis. Funeral services were held from the parlors of Graham & Engemann on Tuesday, September 19, at 2 PM. Interment Crown Hill Cemetery. A wife and daughter are left to mourn his death.
