Sarah Jane "Jennie" Losie Ketchum was born in October of 1842 in Percy Township, Northumberland County, Province of Ontario, Canada. She was the daughter of Daniel Losie and Phoebe Robison. Sarah married Hiram E. Ketchum on February 20, 1861. They were the parents of five children –Edith J. (Dec. 31, 1862 to May 25, 1896), William (November 20, 1868 to November 22, 1868), Estelle Mabelle (December 31, 1869 to December 18, 1900), Edgar R. (September 25, 1872 to November 26, 1964) and Harold E. (January 5, 1881 to April 14, 1952).

The family immigrated to the United States in 1886 and lived the remainder of their lives in Southern California.
