Retired Ludowici Police Chief Francis Arlington "Frank" McClelland, Sr. 82, of Ludowici, Ga., died Saturday, December 25, 2010, in the Memorial Health and University System in Savannah, Ga., after a long, full life.

Frank graduated from Ludowici High School in 1947 and attended Brewton Parker College. He had a career in law enforcement for more than 30 years, retiring from the Georgia Department of Revenue as an agent for the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Tax Unit. He moved on to become Chief of Police in Ludowici until retiring in 2007.

Frank was an avid fisherman on both fresh and salt water. He was the former owner and Captain on the "Eunice C" where he much enjoyed the shrimping industry. He was a member of the Ludowici First Baptist Church and was raised as a Master Mason on June 12, 1953 in the Altamaha Lodge #227 and remained an active member for 57 years. He was also a charter member of the Altamaha Shrine Club in Long Co., Ga., and a Noble Shriner of Alee Temple, Savannah, Ga., for more than 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 40 years: Geraldine Chambless McClelland.

Survivors are a daughter: Kathy (Jackie) Goode, 4 sons: Frank McClelland Jr. (Cindy), Harry McClelland, Mike McClelland Sr. (Rhonda), all of Ludowici, Ga., Rusty Clark (Teresa) of Townsend, Ga., 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 P. M. Tuesday, December 28, 2010, from the Ludowici First Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Rentz officiating. Interment will be in the Jones Creek Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Larry Fowler, Emmett Patterson, Shawn McGowan, Kent Hall, Trent Kicklighter, and Andy Fuller. Honorary pallbearers will be: all Law Enforcement Peace Officers, Brother Masons and Shriners, and Ludowici City Employees.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 P. M. Monday from the funeral home.
