Prairie –Services for Joe Allen Bridger, 85, who died May 9, 2003, were held 2 pm May 12, 2003, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank Millender officiating.

Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Methodist Cemetery. Calvert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bridger retired as a stud welder after 33 years at Babcock and Wilcox Company. He served as an automatic rifleman in the 47th Infantry of the Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war for 26 months in Germany. He was an active member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Una. He enjoyed gardening, reading and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Eula B Bridger of Prairie; two daughter, Debbie Smothers and her husband, Larry, both of West Point, Sue Wilson and her husband, Paul, both of Columbus; two sons, Barry Bridger and Noel Bridger both of Prairie; seven grandchildren, Eddie Wilson and Paul Thompson both of West Point, Angela Hollingsworth and Renay Moore both of Houston, Mia, Lori and Kirk Smothers all of West Point; one sister, Ella Corinne Baker; 11 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois Allen Brand; one son, John William Brand; one grandson, James Allen Brand; and three brothers, William Howard Poss, John Edward Poss and Guss Poss.

Pallbearers were George Knox, Gene Grubbs, Dennis Moon, Joe Jackson, Bob Lee and Ernie Poss. Honorary pallbearers were Neal Smith, Bradford Baker, Lucian Poss, Jack Reese, Gordon Goddard, Chester Powers, Dr. R T Lott, Dr. Robert Dunn and Dr. John M Cox.
