Hugh Boyd (1845-1923) emigrated from Bangor, Ireland and immediately immersed himself in composing, reporting, and editing of "The Times" which he purchased in 1880 and renamed "The Home News". The newly renamed paper stressed local news from New Brunswick, and Middlesex and Somerset counties. Hugh's three sons, Arthur H., William B., and Elmer B. (1880–1955) all held positions at the paper and ran the paper after Hugh's death.
