Atchley was a graduate of Olney High school and the University of Oklahoma. He was a member of the First Baptist church, the Maskat Temple in Wichita Falls, and the Love Field Masonic Lodge in Dallas.
He was Vice President of A&A Contractors and owned and operated an engineering consulting firm in Olney. He had previously been employed by the Texas Highway Department in Austin, the City of Dallas, and Cordell * Associates. He was a member of the Texas Association of Professional Engineers and the Texas Licensed Surveyors. He was a member of the Wichita Falls symphony.
Survivors: son - Tres Atchley of Copperas Cove, two daughters - Bridgette Kolb and Katherine Atchley of San Marcos; his parents - Glenn and Katherine Atchley of Olney; two sisters - Glenda Burg of Dallas, Georgia Atchley of Olney; brother - Dr. Steve Atchley of Denver, CO; aunt - Bobbie Jane Gates of Manhattan, KS; six grandchildren; several nieces and cousins.
