With her mother and sisters Harriet and Sarah, she was a founding member of the bi-racial Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society, of which she served as an officer throughout its history. She taught for at least thirty years; during the 1840s she taught at a school run by Sarah Mapps Douglass, and in 1850 she opened her own school.
