Henry Milton Dalton, son of James Lewis and Matilda (Rabourn) Dalton of Memphis, Tenn, was born Mount Sterling, Kentucky, Nov, 29, 1821, came to Jackson Co.,. Missouri 1841 with his parents and two sisters and two brothers, Henry M. being the eldest, names Nancy one sister and Ormilda, and Lewis and Gillom. They came in covered wagons with ox teams, settled on a farm near independence, Missouri Henry M. Dalton served in the Mexican War under Colonel Alexander W. Donephan. The war began Jan, 6, 1846, ended Feb. 1848. Henry M. came back by way of New Orleans on board the ship. Five days after returning to Missouri he united in marriage to Nancy Martha Johnson, daughter of Larkin and Sallie"(Harris ) Johnson, parents of Richmond, Virginia. Married in year of 1853, to this union 14 children were born. When the Civil war began he was taken prisoner. After going so far was told by the commander he could return home to his wife and 7 children.
