Services for Charles Edward Carpenter were held in the Griggs Undertaking Chapel in McLean and conducted by Rev. B.J. Osborn of Pampa. Mr. Carpenter was the son of John M. Carpenter, a stock farmer of the McLean Community. Charles Carpenter was injured in making a tackle four minutes before the close of the game between McLean and Erick, Oklahoma. His team mates thinking he was only slightly injured, continued with the game. After the game, the young man was taken to his home in McLean and later taken to Amarillo where an examination revealed his neck had been fractured. Pallbearers were his team mates.

He was killed in a football game....when they wore leather helmets,he was tackled,broke his neck...Football season was canceled for the rest of the year....all this happened here in McLean on the football field.
