Funeral services for John Almond Barrera, 39, rural route, are pending; however, the funeral home has yet to be determined. Barrera died Sunday nerar his home.

He was a checker at a local super market. Born in Artesia, he grew up there, and has lived in Carlsbad for 11 years.

He was a member of the San Jose Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Cordova Barrera; two sons, John Raymond Barrera and Paul Anthony Barrera of Carlsbad; four daughters, Michelle Marie Barrera, Julie Christi Barrera, Stephanie Evette Barrera, and Valarie Nichole Barrera, all of Carlsbad; five brothers, Leo Pacheco, Artesia, Mike Barrera, Farmington, Louis Barrera, Artesia, Danny Barrera, Tennessee, and Manuel Barrera, Tennessee; two sisters, Rachel Pacheco, Tennessee, and Virginia Lucero, Roswell.

Barrera was raised by Manuella and Alonzo Opez and Rosemary Franco and Ramey Acosta.

John Almond Barrera, 39, Star Rt. 1, Box 560A, died Sunday near Otis. A rosary will be said tonight at 7 p.m. at the Denton Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be said Thursday at 10 a.m. at San Jose Catholic Church. The Rev. Noel Cramer of San Jose Church will officiate. Burial will be in Carlsbad Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Raymond Barrera, Manuel Barrera, Mario Medoza, Oscar Marquez, Jesus Mendoza, Louis Barrera and Alonzo Lopez.
