Harvey Knight Funeral Services Held Wednesday
Funeral services for Harvey Milton Knight, 44, were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Vernal Third Ward Chapel, under the direction of Bishop Thomas Howells of the Vernal First Ward.
Mr. Knight died Sunday at 7 p.m. in the local hospital where he had been taken the Friday previous following a serious illness.
Born at Vernal Nov. 12, 1916 to Charles LeRoy and Elsie Alberta Glenn Knight, the family later moved to Randlett when Harvey was three years old. He attended school at Randlett and then graduated from Alterra High.
On Sept. 7, 1941 he was married to Norma LaRue Haynes at Gusher. The young couple made their home in Vernal where Harvey was employed at Ashley Valley Market and then at Ashton Bros. Co. In 1943 he joined the Navy and served his country for three years.
It was while he was in the Navy that he submitted to a serious operation for a back injury. He returned home in 1946 and was employed at Ashton Bros. Co. and then as night clerk at Hotel Vernal. In 1949 he was taken to Fitzsimmions Army Hospital in Denver where he spent two years receiving treatment for a serious illness. He then returned home and was employed as bookkeeper for the Utah State Road Commission until the time of his death.
Harvey and his brother Glenn were the original members of A. A. in Vernal and he has been secretary and a leader of the group for the past 14 years.
Surviving, besides his widow are two children, Larry of Artesia and Kathleen, Vernal; four sisters, Mrs. Vera Warburton, Tuscarora, Nev.; Mrs. Mildred Maynard, Vernal; Clifta Johnson, Lapoint; Lil Richards, Rock Springs, Wyo.; and his brother Glenn.
Burial with military honors was in the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Witbeck Post No. 11 American Legion.

Speakers at the funeral services for Harvey M. Knight on Wednesday of last week were Clyde Goodenbaum and Jim Peace of Salt Lake City and Wm. B. Wallis of Vernal. The services were held in the Vernal Third Ward chapel at 1 p.m. under the direction of Bishop Thomas Howells of Vernal First Ward where the family resided.
Prayer at the home was by J. Arben Jolley, former bishop of Vernal First Ward. The prelude and postlude music at the chapel was played by Mabel Stagg. A duet "In the Garden" .was sung by Glade Sowards and Virginia Hacking, accompanied by Dorothy Jolley. Prayer was offered by Blaine Richards.
Following the first speaker Michael Hall sang "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You." The concluding song was "Beyond the Sunset" by Mr. and Mrs. Glade Sowards, accompanied by Dorothy Jolley, with Evlyn Richardson as reader. Benediction was by Phil Watkins.
Pallbearers were Elmer Casada, Ken Rich, Bud Thomas, Delbert Hullinger, Emmett Hall and Mervin Slaugh. Honorary pallbearers were close friends of the deceased. Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery where the grave was dedicated by Curtis Hunsaker, member of the First Ward bishopric.
Earl Batchelor of Cartagena, Columbia, South America was named by the family as an honorary pallbearer but was unable to attend the services.
