Former Bruningite Dies From Injuries
Emil Kugel, 81, was born April 26, 1862, in the province of Pomerania, Germany, and died on July 29, 1943, from injuries received when he was struck by a car while crossing the street near his home in Holstein, Iowa.
Mr. Kugel served in the German cavalry until he was 22 when he came to America and located at Racine, Wisconsin.
After a brief stay in Racine, he came to Ohiowa, Nebraska where he was employed as a farm hand. He was married to Emma Dierking of Bruning on September 7, 1890. One daughter, Rosie, was born to this union. After his marriage, he farmed for himself for several years near Bruning and later conducted a general merchandise store here. He also operated a hardware store at Grafton. During the early 1900's he moved to North Dakota where he engaged in the hardware business.
In 1912, he located at Benedict, Nebr., where he operated a hardware store until three years ago when he moved to Holstein, Iowa, to be near his foster son, Eddie.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 1st, at the Lutheran church at Ohiowa and burial was in the Lutheran cemetery at that place.
