Civil War: Corporal, Company G, 9th Vermont Infantry

Carlos Edson Bolton was the son of William Bolton and Lydia S. Aldrich. He was living at home with his parents at Newbury in 1850 and 1860 (1850 and 1860 US Census). During the Civil War he enlisted as a private at Newbury June 17, 1862, and was mustered into Company G, 9th Vermont Infantry, on July 9. He was later promoted to Corporal. Corporal Bolton was mustered out June 13, 1865. After the war he went to Massachusetts where he married Augusta H. Somes at Charleston October 7, 1869. The couple later headed west to California. Carlos was a machinist and they were living at Columbia, Tuolumne County, in 1880 (1880 US Census). Soon thereafter they relocated to Idaho. By 1883 Carlos and Augusta were living at Gibbonsville, Lemhi County, were Frederica was born in April. Augusta died in 1895 and was buried in Hailey Cemetery in Blair County. Carlos and Frederica were still living at Gibbonsville in 1900 (1900 US Census). About 1901 Frederica married Edward H. Taylor. Sometime before 1910 Carlos, Frederica, Edward, and grandchildren, Myrtle D. (1902, ID) and Edson G. Taylor (1903, ID), moved to Pirtleville, Cochise County, Arizona (1910 US Census). Carlos was living at Courtland, Cochise County, by 1920 (1920 US Census). Carlos died later that same year and was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Douglas.
