Ila Avery Harvey, 96, of Lufkin, was born June 20, 1910, in Nacogdoches, Texas, the daughter of the late Elma (Haltom) and Andrew King Avery. She passed away Sunday, January 28, 2007, in a local nursing facility.

Mrs. Harvey was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the "Good Sam" Club and enjoyed singing. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Tommy Forse of Houma, Louisiana; daughter, Prebble Eklof of Arlington, Massachusetts; niece, Berniece Carroll and husband Don of Lufkin; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Harvey was preceded in death by her husbands, Burton Forse and Bill Slaughter; son, James Riley Forse; parents, Elmer (Haltom) and Andrew King Avery; grandson, William Billy Forse; 1 sister; and 2 brothers.

Pallbearers will be Ken Baker, Gene Childress, Ray Hunt, Dick McKay, Joe Rich, Sr. and Marvin Slusher. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Carroll, Charles Emmons and Lenard Avery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Mrs. Harvey's memory to Calvary Baptist Church, 516 Montrose, Lufkin, Texas 75901. Services for Mrs. Harvey will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Jimmy Hedges officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
