Civil War: Company H, 1st California Cavalry
Daniel Whitley (Orton: Whitney p. 883) enlisted as a private and was mustered into Company H, 1st California Cavalry. He was only a short distance from Fort Bowie when he disappeared on June 20, 1864. A search failed to recover his body and he was later declared dead, after which his mother filed for a survivor's pension November 4, 1864, and received application No. 71,100 and certificate No. 128,502.
