Ron Barringer wrote me with the following:

"I was with Rodney when he died. He was not left in the crater after the initial explosion. Myself and a guard risked our lives by going into the crater while explosions were still going off and pulled Rodney out and put him in a truck and got him to a base medical facility where they attempted to save him as he was still alive. He might of lived except a fragment from an exploding grenade had pierced his heart and he could not be saved. He was a wonderful fellow. The members of our team gave him a fitting memorial and church service."
