A native of North Carolina, Mrs. Shepherd attended schools in Durham, N.C. and graduated with honors from Randolph Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va. She was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority and Phi Beta Kappa.
Mrs. Shepherd worked in Washington, D.C. as an administrative assistant to members of the War Production Department, the Marshall Plan and the Pentagon. She later worked for the Bechtel Corp. in San Francisco before retiring to Santa Cruz 25 years ago. Her late husband, Harold Shepherd, was a former law professor at Stanford University.
She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Hugh M. Allen of Bakersfield; her nephew, Jim Allen of Bakersfield, and a grandniece.
A private interment was at Oakwood Memorial Park under the direction of Chapel of the Four Seasons. Contributions to the the American Cancer Society, or to a favorite charity, are preferred.
