Gabe T. Royse, Prominent Citizen of Posey Township Passes Away After A Long Illness." "Gabe T. Royse one of the best known citizens of the community passed away at his home on Dixie Highway two miles east of Fredericksburg on Aug 31st. He had been in failing health for the past few years. My Royse is of the pioneer Royse family who were among the first to settle in and around Fredericksburg in the early days. He has always resided in the community with the exception of a short time he lived in Langdon, Kansas. In younger days Mr. Royse was actively engaged in farming and as a stock dealer. He owned and managed a large farm on Blue River, Posey Township and purchased stock throughout Washington, Harrison, and Orange counties which he drove to market at Louisville. He was also active in politics and in the campaign of 1894 he was a Republican candidate for Sheriff. He is survived by his wife and two sons and two daughters: Claude M. Royse of Langdon, Kansas; William L. Royse, who lives at home with his parents; Mrs. Letha Johnson of Borden, Indiana; and Mrs. Hattie Hoar of Fredericksburg, Indiana. Funeral services were held at Horner's Chapel Sunday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Charles A. McKinney, pastor of the Fredericksburg Methodist Church and the burial was in the beautiful Horner's Chapel cemetery.
