Harriet's maiden name is confirmed by the death certificate of a daughter in Texas: Ibba Elizabeth Patterson in Kaufman County in 1923.

first found public records of Anson A. Black and wife Harriet in the minutes of The Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Cocke Co., TN. for " Sat. 4 Jun 1843 ...received by experience Anson Black, Harriet Black and ... 25 Jun 1943 received by letter Delilah Jenkins..." I suspect Anson and Harriet were newlyweds - their first child was born Apr 1844.

I suspect Delilah may be the wife/widow of Elijah Jenkins or a younger descendant. Virtually all of the Jenkins members of the church are descendants of Phillip Jenkins and Rebecca Sisk or of Phillip's brother Elijah and his wife Delilah (Unknown). Harriet is likely related to Jenkins church members, but because many Tennessee records were lost in fire at state archives, her exact relationship to parents is unknown.

The couple have two children in Tennessee before going to Georgia where a third is born. They may have been stopping there to see Black or Jenkins relatives before moving on to Bradley Co., Arkansas where they finally settled. By 1850 Anson and Harriet appear in the census for Bradley County, portions of which later become Dorsey and Cleveland Counties. Anson and Harriet Black's census records from 1860-1880 in Bradley/Dorsey/Cleveland Co., AR reflect her birth state as TN and her parents as the same.
