John was the 2nd of 9 children born to James and Sarah. Dr. Martin graduated from Bellevue Hospital Medical College located in New York City in 1874. He then moved to Grove City, Pennsylvania. Dr. Martin was married in 1876 to Ada Black, daughter of Robert G. Black, of Grove City, Pennsylvania.
