On 6 Feb 1864 at the age of 27, he enlisted in Company H, 5th Iowa Cavalry Regiment. On 8 Aug 1864 Andrew was wounded. He transfered to Company H,5th Veteran Cavalry Consolidated
On 15 May 1865 he mustered out at Davenport,IA. Andrew lived in the Dubuque County area.
