Lou was born September 22, 1935 in Muscatine, Iowa, son of Edward and Betty Ash. He served three years in the Marines and was a veteran of the Korean War. He received his associate's degree in Electronics from Devry Technical Institute in Chicago.
He was an AT&T supervisor in Lyons, Nebraska, operations manager in Boone, Iowa and operations manager for the state of Iowa. He retired from AT&T with 29 years service in 1989.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary Ann of 48 years; daughter, Teresa Simpson and her husband Marty of Ames; son, Greg Ash and his wife Cathy of Olathe, Kansas; five grandchildren, Lisa Marie Simpson of Denver, Colorado, Grant Simpson of Ames, Iowa and Ryan, Joel and Elizabeth Ash of Olathe, Kansas; his twin sister, Louise Rettig of Council Bluffs; and brother-in-law, Don and Joann Estle of Washington, Iowa as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Betty Ash, and in-laws, Freeman and Marie Estle.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Ankeny First United Methodist Church or to the family to donate to the American Cancer Society in loving memory of Lou.
