Daisy Pearl Nix Brown Thorne on April 26,1927, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Brad Nix Jr. and Addie Nix Barnett. Daisy was the oldest of five sibling who were all raised in a Baptist household. She attended and was an active participant of Antioch Baptist Church in Hattiesburg,Mississippi.
Daisy graduated from Eureka High School in 1946. She married her high-school sweet heart Jessie Leroy Brown. The Brown's introduced a new member to their family, a daughter, Pamala Brown Knight. The new Mrs. Brown was the wife of the first African American U.S. Naval Pilot. Daisy lost her husband in the Korean Conflict on December 4, 1950. In 1951, Mrs. Brown was invited to the White House to witness Hudner receive the Medal of Honor for his attempts to save Jesse's life.

In 1957, Mrs. Brown married Gilbert Thorne and had a second daughter, Deidre Thorne. Fulfilling a promise on behalf of the late Jesse Brown, Thorne enrolled in college in order to receive a teaching degree. Thorne receive her Bachelor's degree in Home Economics Education from Alcorn A&M College. Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College was founded in 1871 as the nation's first state-supported higher education institution for African American students. Thorne received a Master's degree in Home Economics Education from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Thorne was an educator for thirty-four years. Thorne's first teaching position was in West Point. She held several teaching positions in Mississippi schools such as Earl Travillion, Wiggins, Rowan, Lillie Burney, as well as Hattiesburg High school. Furthermore, Thorne taught overseas in Germany.
Thorne has received numerous awards and achievements throughout her life. Thorne was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. She served on Hattiesburg Public School Board for five years. She served on the Hattiesburg, Forrest County Library Board of Trustees. Thorne served as a policy council with Pace Head Start for over a decade. She also served as Lasson between policy council and Trustee Board. Mrs.Thorne also served on the Hattiesburg Public Library Trustee Board in which she is hornored by Cornerstone for the Petal, the Hattiesburg High,as well as Hattiesburg Public Libraries.
After retiring, Thorne delivered "Meals on Wheels" for the sick and shut-in.
