Lloyd E. Shepard, 82, a lifelong Parsons resident, died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at his home.

He was born Aug. 19, 1928, at Parsons a son of William Harvey and Daisy (Blackburn) Shepard. After graduating from high school he was employed at LaForge and Budd Construction and was later self-employed with a landscaping business. In 1975 he began employment at the former Operating Engineers in Parsons and worked there until his retirement in 1990. He then helped his wife in her upholstery shop until she retired.

On Sept. 3, 1949, he married Betty M. Smoot in the First Foursquare Church at Parsons. She survives of the home.

He loved to garden and to visit with family and friends on the porch. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and great-grandsons.

Other survivors include two sons, Lloyd Duane Shepard of Forest City, Ark., and Darren Eugene Shepard and his wife, Sandra Kay, of Parsons; a daughter, Peggy Jo Mordica of Parsons; two grandsons, Nathan Mordica and his wife, Miranda, of Joplin, and Bryan Mordica of Parsons; five great-grandchildren, Landon Mordica, Anthony Clarenson, Cassandra Lewis, all of Parsons, Jackson Mordica and Owen Mordica, both of Joplin; a brother, Billy Joe Shepard of Fort Scott; and a sister, Donna McElroy of Altamont.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; four sisters; and one son, Jerry Lee Shepard.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home with the Rev. John Chastain officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
