Melvin F. "Waddy" Getz, 87, of Freeport, passed away Monday (January 26, 2009) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.

He was born on June 19, 1921 in Akron, Ohio, son of the late Seymour and Sadie (Connor) Getz. Mr. Getz retired from Alsco Aluminum of Gnadenhutten, where he had worked for many years in the shipping department.

His many enjoyments in life included sharing time with his family & friends, watching wildlife, and spending time outdoors on his farm and on his stocked lakes.

Mr. Getz was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (White) Getz, who passed away on April 4, 1993. They were married on July 24, 1950. Also deceased are two brothers (Seymour & Warren) and two sisters (Irene White & Opal Todd).

He is survived by three daughters, Margie Grimes of Byesville, Jeantte (Floyd, who later passed in 2012) Krunich of Freeport and Laura Wayble of Antrim; a son, David Getz of Fresno, Ca; nine grandchildren (Monica, Joni, Jeremy, Scott, Mark, Sarah, Ryan, Nicole & Jacob), twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.

Burial at the Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Washington Township, Guernsey County. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Antrim Volunteer Fire Department.
