Funeral services for Russell L. Gnagey 84, of Wellman will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11:00AM at the Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Burial will follow in the Fairview Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, December 10 from 2-4 and 5-7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Fairview Church. Russell Gnagey died Wednesday, December 08, at the Parkview Home in Wellman following a short illness.

Russell Lamont Gnagey was born December 17, 1925 in Parnell, IA, the son of Jonas D. and Gertrude (Bender) Gnagey. He attended Greene Center Rural School. On October 11, 1953 he was united in marriage to Lydia Helmuth at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. He worked in construction and in the kitchen at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Russell was a member of the Fairview Conservative Mennonite Church. He loved watching ‘Wheel of Fortune' and ‘Price Is Right' Tv shows, coloring, he enjoyed company and visitors and drinking hot tea.

Survivors include his wife Lydia Gnagey of Kalona, two daughters, Donna (James) Yoder of Kalona and Karen Gnagey of Kalona, one granddaughter, Brandi Ockenfels, three sisters, Gladys Gnagey of Kalona, Delores (Mahlon) Leichty of Kalona and Geraldine (Dale) Widmer of Wayland.

Preceding Russell in death were his parents and one daughter, Vivian Louise Ockenfels.
