Clyde B. Cockrell entered the Army June, 1941, and took his training at Clark Field. He was taken prisoner by the Japanese at Clark Field, Luzon, Philippines, in 1942. From the Philippines, Cockrell was sent to a camp in Osaka, Japan.
On September 18, 1945, his mother, Mrs. Grace L. (Roberson)Shields of Hanford, California, received a telegram stating that he had been returned to the military control of the United States. During his imprisonment his mother received five cards and two letters from him. Before entering the Army he was employed on the Comacho ranch.
