Ambrose Fore, retired after 15 years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, died July 6 at Mt. Diablo Medical Center in Concord. He was 79.

The native of Gueydan [sic Grayson], La., lived in Concord for 48 years. He served in the Navy from 1937-48 and was a member of Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.

He was a team grandpa for the Concord Cobras Youth Football team for eight years.

He is survived by his sons, Fred and Martin Fore, both of Concord; daughters, Georgina Cresanta and Jill Shreeve, both of Concord, Julia Backer of Woodland and Catherine Verstraeten of Cucamonga; brother, Joe Fore of Louisiana; sister, Mary Alice Ferrell of Texas; 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

His wife, Dorothy, died last year, and a son, John Fore, died in 1983.

Services: 11 a.m. memorial Saturday at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, Martinez, with burial at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery, Concord. Arrangements by Bryant & Moore Chapel, Concord.
