Mary Jean Ballard

Mary Jean Davis Ballard, 88, of Columbus, went to be with her Lord at 4:50 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2010, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Ballard was born in Columbus May 14, 1921, the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Mary Magdalin Dean Davis.
She was a registered nurse and retired from Kaiser Hospital in Panorama City, CA. She graduated from Fern Creek High School in Kentucky and from Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in Louisville, KY.
Mrs. Ballard was baptized at St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Deacon Ed Hilger officiating.
In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated at Columbus Crematory and interment of the urn will be at a later date at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Mrs. Ballard was married in 1943 to William E. "Red" Ballard and was divorced in 1969. She is survived by two sons, David Ballard of Columbus and Daniel (Liz) Ballard of Saugus, CA.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Margie Sims, Marcella Davis, Norma Rose Voelz and Dorthea Davis.
