Francisco E. Dalgo was the adopted brother of John Henry (Doc) Holiday. Holiday's father fought in the Mexican war and found little Francisco orphaned and with no family to locate, he brought him back to the U.S. to be raised with his own family. When Francisco grew up it is said that he wanted to become more like an American so he took the name of Francis Edalgo. When the war for Southern Independence broke out, Francis served the Confederate States Army enlisting in the 30th Georgia Infantry, Company B. He returned to Jenkinsburg after the war and raised his family and farmed till his death in 1873.Born in Mexico and orphaned during the US-Mexican War with no locatable family, he was brought back to the states by veteran Henry Burroughs Holliday of the Fannin Avengers and raised by him and his new wife, Alice Jane McKey Holliday. He thus became the older adopted brother of John Henry "Doc" Holliday. He took the name of Francis Edalgo to be more Americanized, and developed a southern accent to blend in. He married Martha Freeman and they had a total of 4 children. Francis served the Confederate States Army, enlisting in the 30th Georgia Infantry, Company B. He returned home and, though he should've moved to drier climates out west, he refused to leave or move his wife and children. He died of tuberculosis, which also caused the deaths of his adopted mother and brother "Doc" Holliday. His funeral was attended by his wife and children as well as "Doc" Holliday and his cousin Martha Holliday, reputed to be the lost love of Doc's, and the source for the character of Melanie Wilkes in Gone With The Wind, as she was also a cousin of author Margaret Mitchell
