After 80 years of residence in and near the Sugar creek community, Mrs. Rachel Brown, 98, died yesterday morning at one o'clock, at the home of her grandson, R[obert] L. Brown, Jr., at Rushville, Mo. Death resulted from old age, though Mrs. Brown had been seriously ill for only a short time before she died.
The last two years of her life, Mrs. Brown had made her home with her son, R. L. Brown, Jr., in St. Joseph. Two weeks ago she came to Rushville for her annual visit with relatives. She had also planned to come to Atchison to visit her daughter, Mrs. Emma Hainline.
Mrs. Brown was born in Lafayette county, Mo., July 9, 1827, and moved to the Rushville neighborhood with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Allison, in 1837. She made her home there continuously for 86 years, until she went to St. Joseph two years ago.
She was a member of the Sugar creek church for more than 80 years, and attended its services faithfully until she moved to St. Joseph.
Mrs. Brown is survived by three children, R. L. Brown, of St. Joseph, Mo.; Perry Brown, of Rushville, and Mrs. Emma Hainline, of Atchison, There are also nineteen grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Alec Brown, died In 1908.
The body is at the Stanton funeral home here, but will be taken to the R. L. Brown, Jr., residence in Rushville at nine o'clock this morning, to remain until the funeral services, which will be held at the Sugar creek church at four o'clock this afternoon. Burial will be In the Sugar creek cemetery.
