Terry Lee Marcus, 63, of Charles Town, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010.

Born Dec. 9, 1946, in Charles Town, he was the son of Wenonah V. "Scottie" Marcus and the late Charles C. Marcus, of Charles Town.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Judy Ann Marcus, of Charles Town; son, Heath; daughter-in-law, Jennifer; grandchildren, Sarah, Lindsay and Jackson Marcus, of Virginia Beach, Va.; siblings, Ron Marcus and wife, Robin, Lana Shultz and husband, Bill and Karen Lack, of Charles Town; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Glenda Behar Marcus.

A West Virginia University graduate and lifelong entrepreneur and local businessman, Terry was the managing partner of Marcus Enterprises, a business and land development firm. Along with his family, he owned and operated the Turf Motel and Dining Room, a local landmark first established by his father. He was a stalwart in the Jefferson County community, serving as current president of the Jefferson County Development Authority and chair of the Charles Town Zoning Board of Appeals, and holding membership in myriad organizations including Eastern Panhandle Home Builders Association, past president and national director; Jefferson County Affordable Housing Committee, past chairman; Shepherdstown Day Care Board; Jefferson County Citizens for Economic Preservation, past president and founding member; Charles Town Moose Lodge No. 948; Jefferson County Cotillion Club, board member; City Hospital and Jefferson County Health Care Foundation Board; WVU Alumni Association, lifetime member; National Association of Homebuilders; Spike Club; Washington High School Athletic Advisory Council; WHS Business Education Advisory Council; and Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was a standout athlete at Charles Town High School, lettering in four sports.

The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Melvin T. Strider Funeral Home, Ranson. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Charles Town Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John Bethard officiating. Interment to follow at Edge Hill Cemetery.
