Alice K. Dicks, 75, widow of William H. Dicks, and one of Tippecanoe county's best known residents, died Thursday morning at 9:45 o'clock at St. Elizabeth hospital, where she had been a patient for five weeks. Complications following a fractured hip which she suffered in a fall at her home in Kirkpatrick caused her death. A daughter of James Wiley [sic] and Sarah (Halstead) Kirkpatrick, early settlers and land owners of the Culver, Indiana, now Cranes Station vicinity, she was born there January 9, 1859. As a young lady she attended the old Stockwell academy and later was graduated from the Oxford school of music. She was a talented pianist and for many years taught piano in this county. An active member of the Methodist episcopal church, she was keenly interested in all church work and was one of the organizers of the old Fairview Sunday school, which later became the Kirkpatrick Sunday school. Mrs. Dicks was also instrumental in organizing children's orchestras in this county. Her marriage to Mr. Dicks took place Nov. 6, 1883, at Kirkpatrick. One son, Bodley K. Dicks, Lafayette insurance man, survives, also a brother, William P. Kirkpatrick, of this city and two grandchildren. Friends may call at the Rogers and Smith funeral home after 1 o'clock Friday afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the funeral home, with the Rev. H. M. Ivey, of Linden, officiating. Interment in the Stockwell cemetery.
