CHESAPEAKE - Loyd Daniel Saunders, 87, of Clearfield Ave., passed away Feb. 24, 2009. A native of Norfolk County, he was the son of the late Loyd and Grace Whitehorn Saunders. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hazel L. Saunders and a daughter, Anita Kathleen Saunders Beck. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, retired from civil service, was a member of Great Bridge Church of God and also attended Mt. Pleasant Mennonite Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol Jeanne Saunders and her husband John M. Sarkis; two sons, Loyd Daniel Saunders Jr. and his wife Patricia and James Robert Saunders; a sister, Jeanne Wright and her husband Bob; a brother, James Saunders and his wife JaneLee; seven grandchildren, Shannon Slabaugh, Jeremiah Scott, Aaron Saunders, Josh Saunders, Kathy St. Marie, James Saunders Jr. and Krista Saunders; a grandson-in-law, David Miller; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
