He participated in high school dramatic club, where he acted and directed. He also acted in studen films at the University of Southern California and the University of California at Los Angeles.
He was employed as a senior research cataloguer at the American Film Institute Catalog in Washington D.C.. He had been employed as assistant to Dean Grant Befglarian at the School of Performing Arts at the University of Southern California. He was an assistant to special projects officer for the Directors Guild of America in Hollywood, Calif, and an archivist at Southwest Film/Video Archives.
He had taught at San Francisco State University as a lecturer in film appreciation, at Kilburn Polytechnic in London, England where he taught a course in film genres for middle and upper level students and he taught at the London International Film School and conducted a seminar in French new wave directors. He had lectured at the San Diego Museum of Art on "The Cowboy in Film, and the French director, Agnes Varda.
