Luella E. Gandrud of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota passed away November 16, 2010

In North Oaks, Minnesota. Luella was born in Luce, Minnesota, Ottertail County, to Martha (Klug) Meyer and Frederick Meyer on November 30, 1913. She was educated at Luce, Perham and Frazee, graduating from Frazee High School in 1932. After graduating from Lawrence Beauty School in Minneapolis, Luella was a licensed cosmetologist and was employed in Detroit Lakes at Mickey's Beauty Shop. During her high school years she worked at Pettibone Lodge at Shoreham. In 1937 Luella married K.I. "Kelly" Gandrud from Richwood, Minnesota. They had three daughters, Krista, Donna and Gileen. Kelly was a Detroit Lakes businessman for 45 years and Luella ran the Surge Dairy Equipment parts store in addition to her household. An accomplished sewer, she made beautiful clothing and many household items for years. Luella enjoyed making Norwegian Hardanger embroidery and her handiwork skills were noted with blue ribbons awarded to her at the 1994 Minnesota State Fair. The Gandruds were lifelong members of First Lutheran church in Detroit Lakes where Luella was a past member of the Zfirst Lutheran Board of Education, Junior Aid, Circle and Action Corps, as well as being dedicated and accomplished Quilter. She made unique hand-made quilts for each member of her family. Because Kelly was a Detroit Lakes volunteer fireman for 40 years, they enjoyed Fire Department activities, the Elks Club and the Eagles Club. Luella lived on highway # 10 East, Loring Avenue and Lincoln Park and Oak Crossing Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes. In July of this year, her family moved her to Clare Bridge, Brookdale Senior Living in North Oaks, Minnesota where she passed away at the age of 96 years. She is survived by three daughters and their families: Krista (Richard) Johnson, Blaine, Mn; Donna (John) Uline, Blaine, Mn; and Gileen "Jill" (John "Jack") Wahman, St. Cloud, Mn. Her twelve grandchildren are John Sanda, Karin Sanda Luebke, Steven, Timothy, Paul and David Sanda; Nancy Nelson, Sharon Ferguson, Sandra Westerman and Thomas Walberg; Beth Behme and Ginny Betzer; and 18 great-grandchildren. Luella was preceded in death by her husband Kelly Gandrud, in 1989, her parents, her sister Elsa King, her brothers Arnold Meyer and George "Pete" Meyer. Services will be held at the HOLCOMB-Henry-Boom-Purcell Funeral Home on Highway 96 in Shoreview, Minnesota on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 2:00 PM with a reviewal from noon until 2:00 pm. Burial will be the following week in Richwood Lutheran church cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
