Union, Sept 14 - Mrs Mary J Erskine, wife of Mr M H Erskine, entered into rest at her home near Union on Sunday night last, Sept 6, 1914, at 7:30 o'clock, after an illness of nine days of paralysis. Thus ended a beautiful life, full of good works. Mrs Erskine was a Miss Kershner before her marriage, and was born and reared in this county. She was 72 years of age at the time of her death. For 54 years she and her husband, he now an octogenarian had dwelt together in mutual confidence and love - an ideal married life. Thirteen children were born to them, of whom eleven are still living. These are Messrs Wm H of Battle Creek, Mich, C Hilbert of Oak Hill, W Va, J Walter, of Mt Hope, W Va, and Harvey M Erskine of Huntington, and Mrs G H Erskine, who lives near Union, Mrs L E Jeter, of McDonald, W Va, Mrs J L Ballengee and Mrs J T Jones, of Huntington, and Mrs C G Pyles and Misses Bertha and Georgia Erskine, at home with their parents. All were with their mother when the end came except Mrs Ballengee (detained by sickness) and Mr W H Erskine, in far-off Michigan. She is survived also by two brothers, Messrs John W Kershner of Creamery, this county, and M M Kershner, of Normal, Ill.
