Wanda Grinstead

Wanda Mae Grinstead, 89, of Danville died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Danville Care Center.

Born Oct. 26, 1921, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Ralph Carl and Edith Fern Thomas Miller. On Dec. 6, 1941, she married Earl Eugene Grinstead in Pleasant Grove. He died March 15, 2001.

Mrs. Grinstead was a homemaker and worked part-time as a beautician and a postal clerk. She spent her youth in Pleasant Grove. She graduated from New London High School in 1939, and graduated from Burlington Beauty School.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Danville where she was active in the women's group. She was a member of 10 Club in Danville, Birthday Bridge Club, Danville Garden Club, and 50-year member of New London Chapter 440 Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking and her children's and grandchildren's sports activities.

Survivors include one son, Roger Grinstead of Minster, Ohio; one daughter, Mary Beth Murrell of West Burlington; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, her parents and two brothers.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel in New London where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Grinstead will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Danville with the Rev. Jack Edmisson officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery, rural Danville.
