Born in Balmorhea, Texas, "Chilo" spent most of his school years in Pecos, Texas. After graduating from Pecos High School, he joined the USAF in 1959. He spent the next 20 years serving his country. His assignments included Spain, Libya; he and his family lived in Germany and England. During the Vietnam War, he was posted in Thailand. After leaving the USAF, he worked at Wolford Hall in San Antonio until he retired.
