Mr. Beyer was born November 12, 1925, in Philadelphia, and was the son of the late Reginald A. and Mabel W. (Green) Beyer. He was a manufacturing engineer with Allis-Chalmers for 30 years.
He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Pacific, European, and Mediterranean Theaters of Operation, and was the recipient of the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for heroic work with another service member in rescuing 113 men from the waters of the English Channel at the beginning of the Normandy Invasion.
He was a member of Otterbein U.M. Church of Spry, the York Township Lions Club, Shiloh American Legion Post #791, where he was a member of their honor guard and a past commander, the Dallastown Golden Agers of Spry, and the Red Lion Senior Center.
Mr. Beyer is survived by his wife; two daughters, Marjorie Beyer and husband, Robert, and Sherry Shank and husband, Leland, all of York; five sons, James Beyer and wife, Brenda, Thomas Beyer, Gary Beyer and wife, Nancy, Steve Beyer and Ruth, and John Beyer and wife, Brenda, all of York; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two brothers.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Mount Rose Cemetery with full military honors given by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
