He was a blacksmith by trade. He served in the Civil War in Co. A, 6th Regiment, Md. Vol. Inf., and with the 81st. Co., 2nd Batallion, Veterans Reserve Corps. He entered as a corporal and was in the battle of the Wilderness. He was transferred to do blacksmith work and while shoeing horses, was kicked and placed in the U.S.A. General Hospital at Fairfax Seminary, Virginia, from which he was honorably discharged on Oct. 12, 1864. David died January 1896 at age 76 (his will was filed Feb. 18, 1896). Julia died May 1903 at age 82 and was buried with her husband in Uniontown Church of God Cemetery.
