Constance A. 'Connie' Blackburn, 77, Altoona, died Mon., Dec. 6, 2010 at Bon Secours Hospital. She was born in Altoona to Dennis G. & Edna R. (Boland) Duncan. She married Thomas W. Blackburn on Feb. 21, 1949, in Virginia, and he died Feb. 21, 2007. Survived by sons: Thomas Jeffrey, in Maine and Joseph & wife, Jodi, of Mechanicsville, VA; daughters: Jennifer Reffner, of Lynchburg, VA; Judy Kowalski & husband, Andrew, of Downingtown and Julie Kangas, of Richmond, IL; grandchildren: Stevie Reffner, Stephanie Reffner, Jason Kowalski, Allyson Kangas, Anna Blackburn and Rebecca Blackburn; gr. grandchildren: Stephen Reffner, Samantha Miear, Dayln Reffner and Paige Miear; and sister, Nancy Villano, of Altoona. Predeceased by brothers: James Robert 'Pete,' Herbert J. 'Jim,' Charles F. 'Fred,' Francis W. 'Joe,' Eugene J. 'Stu' and Dennis W., who died in WWII; and sisters: Valera Fox and Lucille Lytle. After raising 5 children, Connie began working at Gable's Dept. Store as a buyer in the sportswear dept. Then, at the age of 45, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, passing her boards with a national ranking. She was employed as an LPN at Altoona Hospital and later at Winter Park Hospital in Winter Park, FL. Connie was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Connie loved to play bridge, enjoying this with her sisters and through various clubs. She also was a talented artist, creating works in oils and pastels. Stevens Mortuary, Altoona.
