Daughter of Millard Ivan Hartley & Ella Bella (Hayes) Hartley

Mrs. Ethel Arvilla Hartley Gross, 81, of Boone, died Saturday, July 9, at Watauga County Hospital.

She was born in Watauga County May 26, 1902 to Dr. Millard I. and Belle Hayes Hartley. She was married to Cleve Lawson Gross on January, 1921. She professed faith in Christ January 25, 1915 and joined Cool Springs Baptist Church. After her marriage she moved by letter to Oak Grove Baptist Church where she taught a class in Sunday school and training union for eight years.

She was preceded in death by two daughters; Melba Pearl Gross and an infant daughter; a son, Gerald Dale Gross and her husband.

Surviving are one brother, three granddaughters, four step-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted Monday afternoon at Oak Grove Baptist Church, officiated by the Reverends I. V. Couch, Arlie Moretz and Eugene Byrd. Burial followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements.
