Mrs. Lillian Avant Brown, 94, of Sandersville died on Wednesday, April 28, 1999 in the Washington County Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 1999 in the First Baptist Church of Sandersville. The Rev. Dan McPherson officiated. Burial was in the Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville.
Pallbearers were Twiggs Tanner, Mike Sheppard, Horace Mathis, Rufus Hartley, Tuttle Barksdale, Dr. Osgood Bateman, Horace Avant, Jr., and Charles Lee.
Honorary pallbearers were the First Baptist Church WMU and Adult IV Sunday School Department and all past and present Carpenters for Christ.
Mrs. Brown was a native of Deepstep, the daughter of the late Carlos Augustus Avant and the late Sallie Wheeler Avant. She was a retired federal employee with the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service and a retired food service supervisor with the Rawling's Nursing Home. Mrs. Brown was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Sandersville, a member of the TEL Sunday School Class and the secretary of the Adult IV Sunday School. She was an active member of the Carpenter's for Christ and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Brown was the widow of the late John W. Brown.
Survivors include two daughters, Bernice B. Strickland of Tennille and Mary B. Radford of Macon; two sisters, Bernice A. Alexander of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Eva Ingram of Gainesville; a brother, Dewitt Avant of Milledgeville; three grandchildren, Russell J. Strickland, Lee N. Strickland, and Jon H. Radford.
