Henry Huddleston Evans, age 101, of Sheffield, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010. His family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, with his funeral service following in the funeral home chapel. Miles Stutts and Jack Wilhelm will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Mr. Evans was a native of Woodville, Ala. and a member of Highland Park Church of Christ. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army and was retired from TVA.
Survivors include his sons, James Huddleston Evans and wife, Lila, of Florence, Hugh Gary Evans and wife, Marty, of Muscle Shoals; brother, Bill Evans and wife, Addie, of Woodville; sisters, Frances Bynum, of Atlanta, Ga., and Rachel Gertler and husband, Phillip, of Marietta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Jason Hugh Evans and wife, Claudia, of Hoboken, N.J., Adam Huddleston Evans, of Atlanta, Ga., Ben Rogers Evans and wife, Lindsey, of Birmingham; and two great-grandchildren, Lily Claire Evans, of Birmingham, Harper Page Evans, of Hoboken, N.J.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Jason Evans, Adam Evans, Ben Evans, Rudy Evans, Johnny Evans and Pete Evans.
Honorary pallbearers are John Blackwell, Kenneth Davis, Bill Kelly and David Kelly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amedisys Hospice, Mars Hill Bible School of Florence or a charity of choice.
The family expresses special thanks to Judy Barber, Velma Cole, Ruth Darby, Tasha Harris, Virginia Stewart, Wanda Thompson and Malissa Watkins for their love and care. Also a special thanks to Christy Kaundart and Claudia Mardegian, of Amedisys Hospice.
