He worked as a farmer. Dudley died on October 3, 1872 at age 82 years, 6 months, and 28 days old in Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut. He was buried in Shailerville Tylerville Cemetery in Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut. Dudley and Marie had five children: Henry Hobart, George Sheffield, Lewis, Dudley Jr., and Luzerne Foote.
